Rote Rosen is a German telenovela produced by Studio Hamburg Serienwerft Lüneburg and broadcast by Das Erste since November 6, 2006. The show is a complex telenovela, who tells one love story every season about women in their forties.

A fictional narrative and a documentary interview are mixed together in this film about two women deprived of independence for many years because of either their family obligations or an authoritarian spouse. In the fictional segment, based on a novel by Alexandra Kollontai (the first Soviet ambassador to Sweden and an early advocate of women's rights), the young woman Vassilissa (Sascha Hammer) learns how to stand up to her womanizing husband (Mark Eins). Director Rosa von Praunheim plays this story out in the tone of an early 20th century "morality" play. The second focus of the film is about Helga Goetze, a mother of seven children who left her brood when she was 50 years old (and her youngest was already 16) to join the Otto Muehl Commune in Vienna and live a liberated life of sexual freedom, filled with involvement in the arts, literature, and politics. Helga moved to the Kreuzberg district of West Berlin, where the on-camera interview was conducted. Director Praunheim opted for interspersing fictional and documentary segments so as to better chronicle the move toward independence and sexual "liberation" on the part of the two main female protagonists.

A draftsman is accused of selling industry state secrets to a foreign agent and must also save the life of a fellow engineer sentenced for espionage.

In 1945 the 18-year-old soldier Georg Lendau starving and ill ends up in a village. starved and sick. Mayor Kallam helps out. Later they meet again. Kallam gives Georg a job at his factory.

In the middle of Maike's sister Inka's wedding preparations, the marital dispute between Sören and Maike is still simmering because she has been cheating. Maike suggests that Sören should have a fling himself so that peace can finally be restored. With whomever! But Sören ends up in bed with Maike's best friend Doris, of all people. Dirk, Doris' husband, is not the only one fuming with rage and wants to give Sören a thrashing. Maike in particular reproaches Sören: the offer was never meant to be like that! And in the midst of all the chaos, Inka decides to throw the stuffy wedding, which groom Nils only wants to go ahead with for the sake of his conservative mother Renate. So: no wedding and three break-ups?
